SoundStart is an initiative by Bigmouth Audio that supports independent filmmakers by providing access to professional audio post-production - regardless of budget. We also offer real-world experience and mentorship to the next generation of sound designers and mixers.

Primarily:

• Filmmakers who are green-lighting their own projects - creating short films & features with limited resources.

• Emerging sound professionals looking to build experience and credits in film audio under expert supervision.

We offer:

• Full audio post including sound design, dialogue editing, Foley, and final mix.

• Access to professional studios and experienced Supervising Sound Editors.

We’re most excited by bold, original work in narrative storytelling - especially projects with strong creative voices and festival ambitions. We consider fiction, docs & animation. If the story is strong, we’re listening.

If you have a small / modest post budget, we’ll help you maximise its value.

Fully funded projects may still apply if the audio budget is tight or if you'd benefit from our model.

Yes. For projects receiving discounted support, we ask for:

• A producer credit (e.g. “Post Sound by Bigmouth Audio” or “Supported by SoundStart”)

• Logo inclusion on credits and promotional materials

• Permission to showcase the project in our SoundStart portfolio

When we take on a project, we may involve emerging audio professionals - mentees or interns - through our Discord and training programme. These individuals work under the close supervision of our experienced sound team, gaining hands-on experience while maintaining high professional standards.

No. While we’re based in Glasgow, we support filmmakers internationally. If your project fits our ethos, you’re welcome to apply.
